Yum Yum Cha

97. Yum Yum Cha
The quality of Houston’s high-profile dim sum palaces waxes and wanes so much that it’s hard to form any lasting allegiances. But this tiny family-run tea shop in the Rice Village holds steady with its small-batch, cooked-to-order dim sum treats, which arrive via server, hot and texturally vivid. There is nowhere I would rather partake of spidery Wu Gork, the fried taro cake, or satin-slick chong fun noodle wrappers rolled around ground beef tinged with star anise. The Lo Bok Go (turnip cake) haunts; the pork-and-peanut dumplings stun with their frilly man-o-war beauty. Add a pot of pale golden chrysanthemum tea for maximum mileage.
