Turquoise Grill

95. Turquoise Grill
Of all the ground-floor delis that inhabit the city’s office buildings, and that keep the city going, this Turkish spot with sly Italian and Mexican allusions may be the most interesting. (There’s a fancier location in Sugar Land, too.) House-baked puffs of shepherd’s bread are just made for the subtle, creamy hummus, the deftly balanced tabouli, or the ezme, billed as “Turkish pico de gallo.” Split a round shepherd’s loaf, stuff it with the wonderful cinnamon-and-oregano-spiked meatballs, tuck in feta-laced greens, tart pickled cabbage and yogurt dressing, and you’ll see what keeps the regulars coming back. Do not miss the molten “calzone” of spinach and feta, a house-baked spinach pie re-marketed for Houston’s increasingly multicultural age.
