Alicia's Mexican Grille

94. Alicia’s Mexican Grille
A far northwest-side staple for fine, smoky fajitas, the Cypress edition of David Herrera’s tiny local chain is so popular it has grown into big, new next-door quarters. Almost everything is done well here: red and green table salsas, mushroom enchiladas in ranchera cream, beautifully grilled shrimp in garlic butter to fold into house-made flour tortillas the size of dinner plates. Unlike most Tex-Mex places, the ambitious dishes are good bets — especially the Puntas Chimino, seared tenderloin tips in a vivid tumble of ham, bacon, mushrooms and hot green chile strips. A molcajete of lime-revved avocado relish turns the tips into eloquent roll-your-own-tacos.
