Queen Vic

45. Queen Vic
This darkly handsome pub has one of the most fascinating menus in Houston. Chef-owner Shiva Patel DiVirgilio blends her Indian heritage with Gulf Coast ingredients and snippets of local culinary traditions to come up with food that entertains, provokes and mostly tastes great. Her bullet naan flatbread supercharged with green chiles, garlic, cilantro and Berkshire bacon bits is a must-order, as is her delightful “Chutney Flight.” Whether you dine high (mussels in a curried green sauce; branzino cooked with warm, buttery spices in the tandoor) or low (the fabulous lamb kebab burger on a pillowy naan bun), you’ll want some of the well-chosen beers on tap to go along. Short rib samosas and a Texas-brewed IPA? Yes, please. The sub-continentally inflected cocktails round out the kind of smart drinks program that has been such a welcome trend in Houston restaurants during the past couple of years.
